In 2002, Nestlé acquired Chef America, Inc., which not only pioneered the frozen sandwich category but has led it ever since. The business, with 1,600 employees, became part of the Nestlé USA Prepared Foods Company. Now known as the Hand-held Foods Group, its headquarters continue to be based in Denver.
